At TJ Driving School, we believe a good driver is not just good inside the car but on the outside too. If you know how to drive but you don’t know the rules or important road-signs, you could fail both your THEORY & PRACTICAL TEST. This is why we prepare you with the knowledge of all the rules and regulations of the road so you can avoid hazards or dangers before they happen.
There are two tests:
Theory Test
The Theory Test is the first step after getting your provisional licence; you can also book the test once you have started your driving lessons. The Theory Test consists of two parts:
Multiple Choice – These questions will have a choice of answers and you must decide which the correct one. The maximum time for the test is 57 minutes unless you have a special requirement. During the first 15 minutes, you will find the instructions on how to use the touch screen computer and how to perform the test. You need to get 43 correct answers out of 50 to pass this section of the test. From the 28th of September 2009, some car and motorcycle multiple choice questions will be given as a case study- in which a case will be provided to you and you need to answer the questions after reading the full case study.
Hazard Perception – This test will begin automatically after the Multiple Choice Test. Again, you will find the instructions on the computer on how to perform the test. There will be a tutorial video at the beginning which will show you what you need to do. The test clip will last for 14 minutes and you need to respond by clicking the mouse button to avoid any possible hazards. The quicker you respond, the higher you score. You need 44 questions right out of 75.
Once you have passed your theory test, you can book your practical test by consulting with your instructor. You can also practice your theory test online, which is recommended by the DSA (Driving Standard Agency). To know more about the prices and sample questionnaire, click here.
Practical Test
Your practical test will be conducted by a DSA examiner. The DSA examiner will note how well you drive the car and whether you are safe and confident on the roads. The test usually lasts for 40 minutes. The DSA examiner will instruct you on where to drive and prompt you when to do your manoeuvres. The DSA examiner will take you on a round course and on normal course. Your instructor will prepare you for the test and teach you everything you need to know.
Your Test Car has to meet legal requirements, but don’t worry at TJ Driving School we make sure all our cars are well maintained and up to standard at all times. The new car which you will normally drive in your lesson will also be available to you in your Driving Test
If you want to use your own car, then make sure it meets all the legal requirements like a full MOT certificate, ‘L’ plates etc. Ask your instructor if you need any help with this. If your car is not up to standard the test will be cancelled.
